Small Steps: An Early Intervention Program for Supporting Your Child's Development
The early years of a child’s life involve rapid developmental changes. For children with Down syndrome, these milestones might be delayed, but early intervention can greatly enhance their growth. The sooner intervention begins, the more effective it can be.
What is Small Steps?
Small Steps, developed by The September Institute, breaks down child development into manageable steps. The program helps you understand your child’s current abilities and what to focus on next. It covers five key areas:
Gross Motor Skills (sitting, crawling, walking)
Fine Motor Skills (using hands)
Receptive Language (understanding)
Expressive Language (gestures, speech)
Personal and Social Skills (self-care, socializing)
The program provides tailored suggestions for each stage, allowing you to track and support your child’s progress effectively.
